I’ve been a loyal Hootsuite user for many years because it’s inexpensive, easy to use, and compatible with most social networks.
There has always been one thing that drove me nuts about Hootsuite though. If you wanted to schedule a post to Twitter that contained an image, you had to send it as an ow.ly link. Not anymore my friends! I’m pleased to tell you pic.twitter Hootsuite integration is here.
With this integration you can schedule images through Hootsuite using Twitter’s native programming. No more weird links that take users off Twitter to view the image. Now the image will show up directly in the Twitter feed, which is exactly where you want it.
Unfortunately this change doesn’t happen automatically and you have to be a pro (paid) user to use it. If you are a pro user, these are the step you need to follow to set up pic.twitter publishing for Hootsuite:
Step 1
In your Hootsuite dashboard, go to the top left corner and click on your profile image/name. This will take you to the main dashboard where you update settings.
Step 2
Click on “view social networks” to see all of the social networks you have associated with your Hootsuite account.
Step 3
Double-click the social media profile you want to update.
Step 4
Click on “profile settings.”
Step 5
Select “pic.twitter.com” from the drop-down menu.
There you have it. 5 easy steps to setup your pic.twitter Hootsuite integration. After you’ve completed these you’ll be able to schedule and publish full-size images directly to Twitter.
2 things to keep in mind:
- You’ll have to do this same process for every Twitter account you manage with Hootsuite.
- Using pic.twitter will still show as an ow.ly when you are composing your message. The ow.ly link will disappear after it’s loaded in the dashboard.
Have you made the switch to pic.twitter on Hootsuite? Have you noticed any glitches when using this new integration? Share your story in the comments below.

Does this only work in pro accounts? I can’t seem to find it on my free one.
Hey Ben. Thanks for the comment. Right now this feature is only for pro accounts. Hopefully they’ll offer it to everyone soon, though.
Ah darn, I was afraid of that. Thanks though, I appreciate the help.
